Hormone Replacement Therapy

Medication that contains female hormones is known as hormone replacement treatment. When you go through menopause, your body stops producing oestrogen, therefore you take medication to replace it. The most frequent menopausal symptoms that are treated with hormone treatment are hot flashes and vaginal discomfort.

Replacing the estrogen your body stops producing after menopause is the main goal of hormone replacement treatment. Two primary forms of estrogen treatment exist:

  • Hormone treatment is administered systemically. Systemic estrogen is a type of estrogen that is absorbed throughout the body and is often found in greater doses in pill, skin patch, ring, gel, cream, or spray form. It can be applied to address any of the typical menopausal symptoms.

  • Vaginal products at low doses. Low-dose vaginal estrogen treatments, available as creams, tablets, or rings, reduce the amount of estrogen that is absorbed by the body. Low-dose vaginal preparations are therefore typically limited to treating menopausal vaginal and urinary symptoms.

The best treatment for serious menopausal hot flashes and night sweats is still systemic oestrogen medication. Menopausal vaginal symptoms like dryness, itching, burning, and pain during sexual activity can be lessened with estrogen.

Risks of Hormone therapy?

Hormone replacement therapy, consisting of an estrogen-progestin tablet (Prempro), was found to raise the risk of several serious disorders. Research indicated these risks differ based on:

  • Age
  • Hormone Therapy Type
  • Medical history
